The AFL grand final, watched by millions and is undoubtably the biggest match not just for the AFL season but the whole of Australia. Tense, great burden and focus are words you can associate with the players and coaches on this day.
As per tradition Collingwood made their entrance onto the big stage and looked set to run through their banner. The only issue was the banner fell apart upon it being hoisted into position, it wasnt a good sign. Banners have shredded before but that was in howling winds, the MCG only saw a light breeze on this day the 29th September.
Unfortunately for Collingwood FC, on their biggest day they had no banner. The cheersquad would have been devastated.
Enter Nathan Buckley the coach of Collingwood could have been forgiven as focussing on the match ahead but no here he was making sure the cheersquad didn’t feel like they let the club down.
That coming from the clubs leader shows a lot. Buckley respects everyone and in his toughest time ensured that everyone involved felt support.
Collingwood lost the grand final after leading for majority of the game with a controversial moment happening when their runner blocked a player which lead to a West Coast goal. Given the match was decided by under a goal the runner was devastated but Buckley again rose up.
Spotted hugging and consoling the devastated runner post game. You will be hard pressed to provide a more fine example for excellent leadership in a big occasion.
