Unique Bootstrap theme; Homage to the old web

Want to see how or be reminded of what the world-wide web was back in the late 90’s early 00’s? If not than you’re boring and tasteless, otherwise go here.

Divshot has made Geo the Bootstrap theme, its ugly and totally doesn’t hold up in todays design principles but that’s ok because it’s a throwback. It takes you back in time to when weird animated buttons and small images rules the web. An odd project but a satisfying one no doubt.

Comic sans font, boxy buttons and stars dominate the theme. You get the gradient buttons and primary color overload, its pure nostalgia. It’s not consistent and doesn’t make sense but that’s how it was.

Throwback to web 1.0

Growing up in Australia and having the delayed technology/internet takeup I never really got too much hands on with the web in the early 2000’s. But I do remember Primary school being a catalyst for experiencing these now weird and wacky websites as well as the ever aging flash games websites.

The small button like ads stand out like a sore thumb and the visitor count graphic at the bottom of the page. Most likely always far from accurate and in the Geo theme’s case its having a laugh with the endless spinning.

It was not even 20 years ago yet todays web design and design in generall just appears so far and so different to what it was in the early 2000’s. Remarkable and you have to wonder what the design will be 20 years from now? Maybe highly animation based?
