How to install the popular media processing library FFmpeg on an Ubuntu server. The steps are straight forward and minimal.
First start by updating your package list with:
sudo apt update
Then install FFmpeg with:
sudo apt install ffmpeg
You will be prompted with a confirmation and it will begin to download and install.
Once finished, check FFmpeg is installed by calling for its version:
ffmpeg -version
This will return a load of information like this example:
ffmpeg version 4.2.1-0york0~18.04.1 Copyright (c) 2000-2019 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 7 (Ubuntu 7.4.0-1ubuntu1~18.04.1) ............ ............
If it returns the FFmpeg version then you have successfully installed FFmpeg.
